Happy Valentines Day!

Well the day we've been crafting for since January first has finally come! If we haven't started already, we move on to St. Patrick's Day cards and Easter cards after that! Just thought I'd share one last Valentine's day project with you all. It's something that would work with any holiday really, just by changing out the stamps and colors. I did this early this morning because I forgot to buy paper to wrap my husband's present. Luckily I keep the paper bags my Studio Calico kits come in and a light flickered in my head, up-cycle! I've seen it done before, so I'm not going to act as if I am the first ever to come up with the idea. But, I really like how it turned out and love that I could up-cycle the bags. These bags are awesome. I actually usually save them for rolling out sticky doughs. The inside of the bags are coated in a slick material that the dough doesn't stick to. However the coating served a purpose for today's project as it helped stop the red Distress Ink and Copic marker from bleeding. Had I used a plain old paper bag I think I would have had some problems. Granted the Copics did bleed a little, but it wasn't too bad. :)

The picture above is truer to the actual colors. The hearts are hot pink, not red. But I suck at photography. So here's what it looked like all wrapped up, but the colors are a bit off. I tried to fuss with it, but my editing skills also suck. ;)

My Karber card of the week.

This week I used Karber's digi stamp called Alice Leslie, by clicking the link it will take you to Karber's store where you can purchase her. Isn't she adorable? I love the white hare, too! Can't you just hear him telling Alice she's late? :)

I wanted to make a red headed Alice, just to be different. I've also never had a go at coloring red hair before, but I had a lot of fun with it! I think I need to buy the proper colors for red hair the next time I try it, but I'm pleased with the final product.

I cut a doily on my Cameo in pink and just went from there with the layering. I also punched out a scalloped edge with a cute chevron patterned paper. I'm also (as I'm sure you've noticed by now) really on a huge flag obsession as of late! I just love the simplicity of them and how you can dress them up with twine, hemp, buttons, or faux white gel pen stitching.

For my card I chose to use Pattie's Valentine Bear. I Copic colored him different shades of brown and layered him on a scalloped heart die cut on top of a heart doily. I wrapped red and white bakers twine around the base three times and tied a bow. I white washed some Kraft cardstock and trimmed three edges and used a Kraft patterned paper for the fourth edge. Hope you like it!

Sister Stamps Love!

I found this new stamp company called Sister Stamps and I fell head over heels for their cute stamps! I actually won this Yoshimi stamp from a blog giveaway they hosted. Isn't she adorable? I paired her with Lawn Fawn's Lunar Lights stamp set to make this card. I used mostly scrap paper I had sitting in a huge pile laying on the side of my desk. Sometimes I hear it whispering to me ...begging to be used. I gave in this time, I'm such a sucker! Meanwhile my new papers from Studio Calico I just received let out a sigh of relief that they got to stay whole another day. Any ways ...I white washed the polka dot paper with an October Afternoon's Doily mist and a paint brush because it wasn't the right shade of blue, I really like how it turned out! It's more subtle, without being too bland letting the paper pieced images shine a lil brighter.

This week we were challenged to make a card with one of their adorable character stamps. I chose to use Mark's Gift and 2 Cor 9:15. I cut out a 5 inch square card in Kraft cardstock. Then cut a 4.75 inch square in an aqua grid patterned paper. Punched three holes on the bottom corner going horizontally and at the top left corner going vertically. I put six silver brads in and fastened them, then adhered it to the Kraft card base. I eyeballed the size I wanted for the two strips of paper and adhered the yellowish orange patterned paper. For the blue strip I cut a flag at the end by freehanding it with some scissors and adhered that down as well. Again I just eyeballed rectangle I cut out with the orange chevron paper and adhered it down. Then I stamped out Mark and Copic colored him, paper pieced, and adhered to the chevron paper. Lastly I cut out the die cut shape on my Cricut and stamped 2 Cor 9:15 and edged the edges in Vintage Photo Distress Ink with my foam tool and adhered it down.

Sweet Stamping Treats: Blue and Yellow Challenge

Hello, blog friends! This week the Sweet Stamping Treats design team was challenged to make projects with the colors blue and yellow. I chose to use their Baby Raccoon stamp from their February new releases. I cut a bunch of shapes with my trimmer and used my Elegant Edges Cricut cartridge to cut the scalloped die cut. Copic colored the cutie raccoons and added googly eyes to them. For the raccoon in the party hat (I'll just call him the birthday boy) I made a teeny tiny poof ball out of blue and yellow twine and adhered it with glossy accents. Affixed some self sticky pearls and stamped the sentiment with Colorbox chalk ink on a hand cut flag. Hope you like it!

This week I chose to make a Valentine card for my debut design team design using the Lollipop Leslie digi stamp. I'm a big fan of Fox's 'New Girl' show and knew exactly what I wanted to do with this image as soon as I saw it! Hello, adorkable!! If you have no idea what I'm talking about, definitely Google it! Basically it's someone who is an adorable dork. I love Leslie's huge glasses, they give her so much character! I wanted them to be big, red, and shiny! I Copic colored her in and printed a second Leslie so that I could paper piece her glasses with a two small circles of see through plastic underneath. You can't see it too well straight on in the image above, but you can see it in the picture below.

This week with my debut project we were challenged to make a Valentine card with a tag! I started off with the stitching on the Kraft card base by just using my Tim Holtz ruler and poking a hole in every other hole in the ruler's guide. Using an embroidery needle I just ran some off white embroidering floss through. I took a dinner plate and drew a quarter of a circle to make the arch in pink and cut it out leaving the straight edge of the paper as it was. I die cut a doily, a heart, and a tag with my Cricut and adhered them on top of each other. I stamped a stamp from last month's Studio AE set on the tag and tied some Divine twine at the top of it. Then I flicked some mist paints from October Afternoon in Doily and Tattered Angels in gold by unscrewing the sprayer and flicking the tube that normally rests in the bottle. This way I got bigger dots of paint for a bolder look. I tried my best to angle them in a diagonal line ...only a few went astray! ;)

Here's my entry for CAS-ual Fridays' CFC38: Clean And Simple Movie Inspiration challenge!



My movie is of course, Gnomeo & Juliette! Since it's a Clean and Simple challenge, the only thing that really pops is the gnome's beard and the banner. Everything else is all flat and very mailable. Well the gnomes beard is pretty pliable and squishy, so he'll definitely mail well. ;) His beard was made with a snow making pen and heated with a craft heater to puff up and the banner is just propped up on thin foam adhesives.

Sweet Stamping Treats Design Team!!

Well I've been pretty inactive on my blog lately, though not at all inactive at my craft nook! Reason being is that I was lucky enough to get picked up on a couple design teams! Seeing as everything has to be hush-hush till the official announcements, I couldn't post anything I was working on. However, today I get to officially announce and post my very first project from the Sweet Stamping Treats digi stamp company!! You can find their store and blog by clicking here!

This week we were challenged to use their sweet stamps to make a Valentine card. I chose their super cute Tweet Hearts Roses digi. I cut two sets of two different sizes of smaller hearts on my cricut with different patterned paper. Then I layered them down and adhered them with tape runner glue. I wanted the Tweet Hearts Roses digi stamp to really stand out, so of course it went in the middle. I also punched a small heart in the bottom right and tied a piece of light pink twine through it. To balance the twine and heart out, I placed some mini red bling in the upper left part of the heart. Then I just adhered it to the other hearts with foam adhesives. Lastly I stamped a sentiment in memento black ink. Easy peasy and super sweet, err tweet! :)
